Thanks mate! I did some searching and tried with the latest secman I could find but still no joy.

Eventually, I got the Drakkarious "kit" and that did the trick, albeit only with irRemote 1.03.
No matter what I tried with 1.04, once the app is installed it just does not start at all.

1.03 runs, but I'm still to see it do anything on any of my equipment... No exact matches among the currently available codes. I tried the similar models, methods 1 to 6, nothing...

I have a feeling that IR on my N95 could be messed up. I changed the rear cover recently, could be the contacts... hmm

I'll keep on trying!

i don't think it messes any hardware , just format the phone to make it normal ,just dont forget to make backup of important data or you will lose it ,please not that psiloc products DRM files which also needed to uninstall from application manager before installing new version

I was referring to IR being physically affected by me changing the cover, not by the application .

Anyway... The whole thing is sorted out; here's a few tips that might help many of the people that complain about irremote not doing anything even when installed correctly

As I said earlier, I changed the rear cover and used a cheap non-original cover.

1st problem:
The cheap non-original rear cover has the IR plastic window that does not let ANY IR through! I tested this with laptop's IR rx/tx. Sure enough, with cover removed, IR works perfectly. With cover on, nothing.

So, I broke off the little black plastic IR window and stuck in the Nokia's original piece.

2nd problem:
You've heard people complaining about the pathetic range of N95 IR? No wonder - even the original plastic window for IR rx/tx filters out MOST of the IR!

So, eventually, I took the plastic window out completely and put the rear cover back on, now showing the little opening where the IR window used to be. Not pretty but, ... IR works at the distance that I need it for which is nearly 3 meters

There you go people! It does work beautifully and the range is quite decent and it does not need to be directed straight into the other IR rx as some people have reported.

Now... how do we go about manually changing the remote codes? I'm not talking about downloading the new codes, but actually digging into a few of the files - say, there are two Yamaha "amps" that I need to "merge" in order to have the 100% functionality needed for my model (that is otherwise not available for download).

???

Yep... it doesn't seem to be a straight forward thing, strangely enough.

I downloaded the xyz.ir code files straight from the PSiloc for two Yamaha receivers that I need to merge together. Using Notepad to look into the files reveals a non-ascii header record.

So, I downloaded a simple hex-editor and typed in the correct code value for the "DAT" device, saved, copied over to N95 into the card \data directory, navigated to the file with Nokia File Explorer, clicked on the file, irRemote started and imported the device with the correct name - all perfect.

BUT: Not only that the code that I provided does not do anything, but even the keys that follow that one in the file are now non functional... Grr... Could be that the file header record contains some references / check digits? Or, maybe the Hex-editor does not save the content as it was?

More play-time needed...

By the way - the range of the N95 IR is easily over 4 meters now with IR window removed. Good stuff.
